Department of Science of Dental Materials |
The Science of Dental Materials Department deals with both undergraduate and postgraduate students. In 4 years BDS programme, the Science of Dental Materials is taught to the first year students. The main purpose of this course is to provide the students with basic knowledge of Dental Materials with regard to their structure, behaviour, manipulation as well as applications. Moreover, students are given a hands-on training of all materials in the pre-clinical laboratories which will ultimately result in the deliverance of quality dental treatment in a community.
In addition to routine lectures and practical classes, various teaching aids such as tutorials, presentations and small group discussions are used to bring about a sense of competence and confidence among candidates. The assessment of undergraduate students is based on written examination, objective structured practical examination (OSPE) and periodic internal evaluation.
The Department also offers a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D 4 years) programme in Dental Materials under the supervision of Higher Education Commission (HEC) approved supervisors. The aim of this programme is to produce knowledgeable, research oriented and inventive scholars and teachers. Our Ph.D students are provided with a wide range of research facilities at the Medical Research Centre, Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences, Jamshoro. Furthermore, the department has got collaboration with the Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro for some joint research projects.
The faculty members of the Department are well-educated and highly skilled at teaching, edifying and enlightening their students. |
