The Department of Medicine, Liaquat University of Medical & Health Sciences (LUMHS) Jamshoro, Sindh, Pakistan, is committed to promoting excellence in teaching and research in order to produce competent and confident medical graduates as well as postgraduates who will take responsibility for their continued professional development.
The aim of the undergraduate course leading to the degree of MBBS is to educate students in the principles and practice’s of Medicine and to provide them with the ability to continue learning beyond graduation. A number of teaching methods are used to include Lectures, Tutorials, Presentations, Projects, Case studies, Ward rounds, Out patient clinics and periods of self directed learning. Summative assessment methods include written exams, oral exams, clinical exams and continuous assessment.
Whereas, the aim of the postgraduate course leading to the master’s degree of MD is to introduce the medical graduate to more advanced areas of Clinical Medicine and Medical Research. The course aims to illustrate to students the principles of Medical Research in a theoretical and practical manner through taught modules and the completion of a research project. Finally we aim to foster an interest in the conduct of research throughout a medical career and the ability to critically evaluate research work in general. The Department of Medicine also provides training to post graduate courses of FCPS (Medicine) offered by the College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP).
The clinical services have a distinguished history of providing care to seriously ill and vulnerable patient populations as well as tertiary care. The goals of the Department’s educational programs are to attract the most outstanding trainees, enforce rigorous standards of achievement, develop a learning environment and individualized programs of study that help trainees reach their full potential, and to create an exemplary mixture of professionalism, service, and integrity.
The department’s clinical programs provide a full range of clinical services to an extraordinarily diverse patient population from Hyderabad & Jamshoro as well as large surrounding area within Sindh Province.
The faculty members of Department of Medicine consist of highly qualified and well experienced Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors and Senior Registrars. The Assistant Professors working under Tenure Track System, in the supervision of the Director Medical Reserach Center of the Uniiversity, have shown excellent performance in medical research fulfilling the aim of Higher Education Commission to promote medical research. |
